Frequently Asked Questions

What YouTube videos work with VideoQuiz?

Any YouTube video with captions — auto-generated or manual. That covers the large majority of videos: TED Talks, news clips, documentaries, educational channels and most English-language content.

Live streams don't have a transcript until they end, and videos with captions turned off can't be used. Age-restricted videos usually can't either.

Are the questions actually good?

They're a strong first draft, and every one is editable — change the wording, fix an answer, or drop a question you don't like before you print. The AI is prompted for ESL teaching: comprehension over recall, clear simple English at your chosen CEFR level, plausible wrong answers, and no trick questions.

Can I use VideoQuiz for languages other than English?

Yes. Choose any of 17 output languages and the whole quiz is written in that language — so you can generate an English quiz from a Spanish video, or a Vietnamese quiz from an English one. For non-Latin scripts, use the Print option and choose "Save as PDF", which renders every script correctly.

What happens after my three free quizzes?

Two options, and both are fine. Your three reset next month, so you can simply wait. Or you can remove the limit yourself — the extension shows you how in Settings whenever you want more, and it takes a couple of minutes.

Most teachers never need to. If you would rather not think about it at all, Pro includes the quizzes for you.

How is this different from ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a general-purpose tool. VideoQuiz handles the whole workflow: it finds the video's transcript, writes questions pitched at a CEFR level, formats a printable PDF with the answer key on a separate page, and builds a graded Google Form. No prompt engineering, no copying and pasting, no formatting.

Can I cancel anytime?

Paid plans aren't on sale yet, so there's nothing to cancel. When they launch, you'll be able to cancel in one click from your account settings, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Does it work on mobile?

VideoQuiz is a Chrome extension, so it runs on desktop and laptop computers: Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS. Mobile browsers don't support extensions, which means there's no iPhone or Android version.

Do I need an OpenAI API key?

Yes — one key, pasted once. VideoQuiz runs on your own OpenAI account, so a quiz costs you less than a cent and there is no subscription to us. We open the right page for you and show you where to click.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your settings and your saved quizzes stay in your own browser. There is no analytics and no tracking of any kind.

The only moment anything leaves your browser is while a quiz is being written: the video's captions are used to produce the questions and are then thrown away. Not stored, not logged, and not readable by us afterwards. The only thing kept is a count of how many quizzes an account has used, so the limits work.
